A Proud History

The North Hobart Football Club was founded in 1881. It first played in the Senior Tasmanian competition in 1895 and has continued in the same tradition since that date. In that history the Club has played in 44 Grand Finals, 15 of them consecutively. It has won 29 senior premierships and 16 State premierships.

The Club participates in the Premier League of the Southern Football League competing against traditional teams including Clarence, Glenorchy, Hobart and New Norfolk. North Hobart is one of the few surviving great clubs nationally. It has made a major contribution to the great Australian game.

In 2003 the club were the premier team in the SFL Premier League Grand Final, winning the Grand Final against Hobart by a record 110 points.

Strength in Numbers

The North Hobart Football Club has over 400 members, including 25 members of the Trident Coterie group. It has 60 registered senior list players and over 300 Junior (school) members.
Teams are fielded in all divisions from Under 8s to Senior SFL level.

The Club and the Trident Coterie group comprise high profile academic, business, political and sporting personalities who are committed to achieving financial and on field success. They are backed up by a very loyal band of members.

A New Image For a New Millennium

In 1998 a research report was initiated by the Club to explore responses from representative individuals, groups and organisations associated with the Club toward possible changes in its operations and its identity as it approaches the next millennium.

The study was prompted by changes to the structure of Tasmanian football recommended by the Biggs report. the redefinition of North Hobart football district to include Hobart’s central business district, and a desire to find long-term solutions to the financing of the clubs operations.

The research was undertaken by Clemenger Tasmania Pty Ltd. a leading marketing and advertising company.

Their report identified four areas of Club activity that should be addressed:
• Club image and identity • Sponsorship
• Membership • Club facilities

Looking To The Future

No Club can rest on its past achievements. New times provide new challenges and require new thinking and new solutions.

AFL Tasmania and the SFL have acknowledged that the club has the best managed sponsorship portfolio in the State.

The prime reason for the club’s professionalism is the adherence to our Sponsorship Objectives:

• to develop appropriate sponsorship packages to be sold by the Club;

• to secure a major naming rights sponsor and other sponsors from the corporate and business sector of the community;

• to ensure that all elements contained in the sponsorship agreement are provided;

• to promote and market goods and/or services available from sponsors and advertisers to members and supporters.

This will be achieved by ensuring maximum exposure for sponsors through utilising all available media and publications produced by the Club in a manner, which is supportive and consistent with NHFC policy.

The Club policy of recruiting high quality personnel to its management and playing staff will be sustained, It will continue to pursue its debt reduction strategy to ensure its future viability.

Ways We Support Our Sponsors

In this competitive world the club is very conscious that sponsorship is not a philanthropic activity. The Club is acutely aware that sponsors require a substantial return for their investment. We aim to provide our sponsors with value for money as follows:
• Membership and Social participation packages
• Corporate memberships
• Signage and publicity opportunities
• Publications and promotions
• Access to players.

Details of sponsorship packages are contained in the accompanying documentation. The packages are only indicative of what is available and prospective sponsors are welcome to propose other options that suit their needs. Please don’t hesitate to contact Naomi Hannaford, Director Sponsorship/Marketing, telephone 0409 257 318 if you have any enquiries.

Communication Key To Success

The Club has produced a comprehensive and attractive publication ”Never Say Die” which records the history of the Club. In addition the club produces an Annual Year Book which has been acclaimed by the football community and the media. Regular newsletters, annual report statements and other fliers are published to keep members fully informed of’ what is happening in the Club.

In addition a Sponsors Advertising Directory is published each year.

These publications also provide an opportunity for sponsors to advertise their products and services.

We encourage our sponsors to utilise our communication facilities to gain exposure for their businesses.

Facilities

The club has available the corporate facilities in the Plaister Stand at North Hobart Oval.

These facilities include individual Corporate Private Boxes overlooking the North Hobart Oval.

In addition the Clubrooms has a full liquor licence and a kitchen.

These facilities are available for the enjoyment for our members, guests and sponsors.

Participation at the Elite Level

Our Club strongly supports our players to participate at an elite level. The Club has had 52  players play VFL/AFL football including current Carlton draftee Marcus Davies and current Melbourne player Colin Garland.

Success off the field

The remarkable history of the Club can be attributed to the key values of loyalty, persistence, camaraderie and desire to succeed. Central to the pursuit of these values is the Club’s affinity with families. Many families have had generations associated with the club.
